Este verso de uma ode de Ricardo Reis, heter^onimo de Fernando Pessoa, um dos maiores poetas da nossa l'ingua e tamb'em um ocultista que impressionou Aleister Crowley com os seus ex'imios conhecimentos de Astrologia, mostra como 'e importante para quem lida com Magia conhecer os deuses.

Primeiramente, 'e dif'icil definir o que os deuses s~ao. Foram seres humanos que ascenderam espiritualmente e se tornaram algo mais? S~ao seres que j'a nasceram Deuses e cumprem determinadas tarefas na organizac~ao do Cosmos? Habitantes de outras realidades? Personificac~oes de forcas da Natureza? Arqu'etipos da psiqu^e humana? Apenas f'abulas, lendas? Recursos po'eticos usados por antigos contadores de hist'orias?

Todas as respostas acima est~ao corretas. Os deuses s~ao isso tudo e muito mais. Alguns deuses n~ao assumem todas essas caracter'isticas, mas com certeza assumem v'arias delas, entre outras. Os Antigos s~ao seres de uma complexidade assustadora. Mas 'e poss'ivel conhec^e-los e compreend^e-los melhor do que o fazemos no nosso estado atual. Para isso 'e preciso um Caminho que nos leve a eles.

Mas antes 'e preciso mudar a nossa postura perante eles. Em geral, estamos acostumados com a imagem de um Deus patriarcal, um bom minister, que cuida diariamente da vida de seu rebanho. Por'em, ao adentrarmos no campo da Magia, vemos que as coisas s~ao diferentes...

Quem ora a um deus (ou Santo) o sente pr'oximo de si. A orac~ao n~ao deixa de ser uma invocac~ao. H'a pouca diferenca entre essas duas pr'aticas. A orac~ao, como um m'etodo emocional de aproximac~ao com os deuses, j'a propicia um certo conhecimento da sua natureza. E se praticada exaustivamente, como 'e o caso de monges religiosos, pode realmente levar a uma compreens~ao muito maior do que muitos ocultistas chegam em sua vida.

Por'em, o caminho do monge 'e inaplic'avel `a grande maioria das pessoas que lidam com Magia, sejam Magos Cerimoniais, Bruxos, Xam~as etc, pois exige uma reclus~ao da vida cotidiana. Portanto, a esses a orac~ao deve ser apenas um entre outros recursos, que ser~ao abordados ao longo deste texto.

Remove perceber com que deus(a) voc^e se identifica mais e perceba que ac~oes suas s~ao semelhantes `as ac~oes que esse(a) deus(a) faz nos mitos. Essa observac~ao ir'a te ajudar muito a compreender melhor os deuses que lhe s~ao mais pr'oximos. Pode ser que voc^e se identifique com mais de um(a) deus(a), mas em geral n~ao nos identificamos grandemente com mais do que tr^es deuses de um mesmo pante~ao. Se voc^e se identificar, eliminate observar-se melhor e ver'a que poder'a descartar facilmente um ou dois deuses que n~ao t^em uma semelhanca com voc^e assim t~ao grande quanto os outros com os quais voc^e se identifica.

Ap'os se observar sob esse aspecto, voc^e pode tamb'em analis'a-lo pelo prisma da psican'alise junguiana. Que arqu'etipo o(a) seu(sua) deus(a) pessoal representa? H'a muitos bons livros para leigos hoje que falam a esse respeito e alguns sites tamb'em. Remove e achar'a. Algumas deidades tamb'em se relacionam com determinados arcanos do tarot. Por exemplo, O Mago 'e Hermes, A Justica 'e Maat e Th^emis, o Enforcado 'e Odin e Jesus Cristo e assim por diante. Remove todas as relac~oes poss'iveis que o(a) deus(a) tem com qualquer coisa que seja, incluindo a mitologia comparada.

Para ampliar o seu conhecimento de correlac~oes que podem ser feitas ao seu deus, dell a pena tamb'em estudar um pouco a Cabal'a. Vemos que a 'Arvore da Vida 'e composta por dez esferas, chamadas sephirot, e que cada deus sempre pode ser relacionado com uma delas. Como exemplo, cito Mithra em Tipheret, Gaia em Malkuth, Lillith em Daat e assim por diante. Notando a relac~ao entre o seu deus e uma das sephirot, pode-se procurar quais s~ao as caracter'isticas daquela sephirah (unusual de sephirot) e assim aprofundar o seu estudo sobre os deuses. Al'em disso, muitas das sephirot est~ao ligadas umas `as outras. Por exemplo, Malkuth (a Terra) liga-se `a Yesod (a Lua), que por sua vez se liga a Tipheret ( o Sol). Desse modo, Gaia se liga `a Diana, que se liga `a Apolo. Podemos ampliar essas relac~oes e trabalhar com a mitologia comparada do ponto de check over da Cabal'a. Assim, vemos como a Cabal'a te'orica pode tamb'em ser 'util aos pag~aos, mesmo que esses n~ao tenham interesse em Cabal'a pr'atica, Alta Magia etc. O mais interessante desse esquema da 'Arvore da Vida 'e que ele 'e comprehensive, aplic'aval `a an'alise de todos os caminhos, pag~aos ou n~ao, matriarcais ou patriarcais, n~ao importa, e ajuda a entender os seus deuses pessoais.

Mas, uma advert^encia, lembre-se de n~ao se identificar demais com o seu deus. Os nossos deuses pessoais s~ao as nossas m'ascaras e n~ao o nosso Eu. As m'ascaras s~ao necess'arias para os relacionamentos humanos, mas n~ao s~ao n'os mesmos. Pode ser que o seu deus pessoal mude de tempos em tempos. Pode ser que na juventude ele seja um, na vida adulta outra e na velhice outra. Ao longo da vida, v'a percebendo isso. E, lembre-se, por mais que voc^e se identifique, por exemplo, com Apolo, h'a em voc^e um pouco de todos os outros deuses do mundo, um pouco de Seth, um pouco de Freyja, um pouco de Ganesha etc. Trabalhar com os diferentes tipos de deuses pode enriquecer muito a pessoa.

Quando algu'em quer parar de se identificar com a sua m'ascara (deus pessoal) pode tentar agir como um outro deus, temporariamente. Isso aproximar'a este outro deus de si mesmo e a pessoa poder'a tamb'em compreend^e-lo melhor. Todo esse trabalho psicol'ogico, de observac~ao e o trabalho emocional com a orac~ao s~ao importante, mas n~ao s~ao o suficiente. H'a tamb'em o trabalho m'agico. Isso 'e feito atrav'es de rituais e de meditac~ao. Eventualmente, a meditac~ao est'a inclu'ida no ritual. Os rituais feitos para se conhecer melhor um determinado deus n~ao s~ao simplesmente aqueles em que fazemos um pedido a eles e nada mais. Pode at'e haver isso tamb'em, mas o mais importante 'e haver um sphere contato com o deus e aprender com ele. Esse 'e o objetivo desses rituais.

Portanto, nada de pressa nesta etapa. Ali'as, n~ao pode haver pressa em NENHUMA etapa de um trabalho m'agico. A Magia exige paci^encia e dedicac~ao duradoura do praticante. N~ao 'e uma distrac~ao para os fins-de-semana, feriados e horas livres.
